Top 5 of Fall

We're not even four days into September and already fall is all the talk. The excitement of change is just in the air. When I walked Harlow this morning around 8:00 a.m. it was barely sixty degrees outside. My Facebook feed had at least 45 statuses about Starbucks Pumpkin lattes before 9:00 a.m.. I know I'll probably be shunned from blogland for saying this, but I don't like pumpkin lattes. There, I said it. Talk about a weight off my back. I used to get one about once a year, you know just to feel a part of the crowd, and to write a Facebook status about it obviously. But this year I've finally decided enough is enough. I'm not going to pretend to be someone I'm not, I'm going to be who I really am, and that's someone who doesn't give a shit about pumpkin lattes.

And it's not just lattes, I've started to notice girls go a little crazy for anything "pumpkin spice" this time of year. I think I could post a recipe for "pumpkin spiced tree bark" on Pinterest and watch as the repins start rolling in. Or pumpkin spiced kale chips...

Anyway, I truly do love this time of year. And here are just five reasons why.

1. Back-to-school shopping.

I remember once upon a time, long long ago, when my parents used to take me back-to-school shopping. Oh this was just the best day ever. I would buy fleece vests from Old Navy in every color available, new hooded sweatshirts from GAP that said GAP as big as possible just to make sure everyone knew where they were from, and maybe just maybe, I'd splurge and get a stupidly expensive shirt from Abercrombie. What I wouldn't give to have someone take me back-to-school shopping these days. The only thing I'd ask for are these ankle boots. I want them more than I wanted zebra striped capri pants from Limited Two in seventh grade.
And if I get the boots, I'll obviously need this sweater to go with them. If I could live in chunky creme sweaters I would be a happy girl.

2. New fall TV shows.

Mind you I don't usually end up watching them past episode 1, but nothing says fall to me like a bunch of new TV shows trying too hard to make it. Andy Samberg's about to star in a new comedic cop show called Brooklyn Nine Nine? Sounds like a hit to me! Can't wait for the hijinks to begin.

A cop in a floral speedo? Man, this show is gonna be good! ...

3. Soup.

Chili season is almost upon us.

4. Scarves.

If it's chili time, it's scarf time once again.

#5. The leaves.

If only this look lasted more than a week or two... Luckily, I think we've got at least another month before Chicago starts to change.

What do you love about fall? (besides pumpkin lattes...)

  1. I'm definitely a little grumpy fall is upon us but scarves, leaves changing, and boot shopping does cheer me up a bit--so thanks for the reminders :)

  2. I love boots & sweaters & scarves! I also love all the pretty colors. Makes for some good photography. :)

  3. This makes me so glad to know that I am not a social pariah for not liking pumpkin spice lattes. For years, everyone would rave about them so fall would roll around and I'd try it again, just in case I actually liked them. Nope, dislike, gross.

Also, love sweaters. And boots. And scarves. And watching the dog get so confused by which leaf to chase.

  4. I am one of those pumpkin loving people, but I prefer regular old pumpkin flavored coffee to those super sweet lattes. I cannot wait to wear boots and scarves and sweaters again! My favorite fall activity is driving out to the North Fork of Long Island to go pumpkin picking and/or wine tasting and watch the leaves change.

  5. I love football and I love that most of the tourists have left my beach and I no longer have to deal with them.

  6. I just want to put it out there--I loved pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin flavored food BEFORE it was cool.

I think fall is my favorite because that means it's almost time for the holidays. Also, the weather is really great..oh, and with Halloween and Christmas coming up, that means festively wrapped chocolates, which I have had an obsession with for as long as I can remember. For some reason, hershey's kisses just taste better in red and green foil.

  7. Ehh. Fall is ok but definitely not my favorite. Pumpkin is definitely over rated.

  8. I hate pumpkin spice lattes too! I tried one a few years ago, because everyone was like, they are soooooo good. They lied. It tasted like cigarettes. I tried one sip and threw it away. Yuck.

  9. OH man, boots and scarves are by far my favorite look. I cannot wait. I also am not a big fan of pumpkin spice. I'd rather have a cinamon chai any day...

  10. I love fall. I want to experience fall in the USA!
We've just headed into Spring so I am happy to be getting rid of boots, scarves and other cold weather items

  11. yay a fellow pumpkin spice hater. Go with the caramel mocha instead. I saw my scarves in the back of my closet this morning and told them, hang tight, it'll be your time to shine sooooon!

  12. I LOVEEEE Fall, but fall in Texas means 80 degree days. barely 60 this morning!? So jealous.

Scarves, scarves!!! How I love a good scarf!

Right there with you on the PSL. What is the hype!?

  13. I love fall! I had a taste of it this morning because it was only 60 when I took Bandit out for his walk. (But it'll be back in the 90s later this week here... UGH!) I'm ready for scarves, boots, sweaters, leaves and everything! And while I am a fan of the Pumpkin Spice Latte - it's totally okay if you aren't! I like Pumpkin Spice in my coffee, but that's about it. I'm not ready to jump off the crazy pumpkin bridge like everyone else. That's just weird! I'm also a fan of the Salted Caramel Mocha. It's so yummy!

  14. I dont like pumpkin spice lattes either so your not alone! I am not ready for fall at all but pretty much everything on that list makes me happy to welcome fall...in a few weeks :)

  15. I love November...cause that's when I can actually participate in all the above-mentioned activities. Curse you Arizona.

  16. Have you seen the James Franco roast on CC? Andy Samberg killed it. He turned everything on it's ear and reminded me how truly talented he is.....

  17. I was just ranting about pumpkin spice lattes (and pumpkin spice EVERYTHING) to my boyfriend this morning. I felt like I was the only one in the world who can't stand pumpkin slide, there's more to fall than pumpkin foods!

  18. CHILI. Yessss. It's tradition in my family to make a big batch every Halloween, although we will be making pretty much every week when it gets cold!

  19. I hate pumpkin spice lattes (or whatever they are called-- and I've never tried one and will never because I refuse to pay an arm and a leg for a coffee or WHATEVER).. and we don't get "fall" or "winter" in Pensacola, FL because we are a beach town. Our leaves don't change colors, our Summer lasts usually until the end of October and the coldest it gets is usually high 30s. Cheerio!

  20. I could copy and paste this post onto my own blog today and it would fit me perfectly. I don't like pumpkin any thing let alone pumpkin spiced anything. But what I wouldn't give to go back to school shopping with my moms money. Ugh.

  21. ugh i hate all pumpkin shit. I am so glad i am not alone.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I 100% agree with you on pumpkin lattes. I don't give a shit about ANYTHING pumpkin. Pumpkin is just not my thing and people want to mix it with everything! Ew!
I am also looking forward to Brooklyn Nine Nine. My husband and I keep seeing commercials for it and it looks funny! Of course we'll say we're going to watch it and then we will. .. for two episodes before we fall off the planet as usual.
Also, I bought a new scarf today, and it felt good.

  23. This just made me SO freaking excited. And I must be a terrible person because I've never had a Pumpkin Spice Latte in my life. And I just ordered a creme chunky sweater and I cannot wait to wear it! EEK!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't like all the Pumpkin Spiced everything either! Every year as all the pumpkin foods come out I always choose the originals. With all the amazing food you get to eat during fall and winter, why would I want it all to taste the same :)

  25. ok 1- you are lucky to get to see leaves change color...here in so cal the leaves change color in Feb and it happens like in a day, so you pretty much miss it. I don't care for pumpkin spice lattes either...however Oct and November I break out the pumpkin candles :)and i totally did back to school shopping this week...a teacher needs new duds too!!

  26. I don't like Pumpkin Spice either!! AAAnd I LOOOOVE Chili. So good.

  27. I always hold out for the gingerbread lattes. Those are my favorite. But really, it's 90 degrees out. Stop it with the pumpkin already.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You didn't happen to see the roast of James Franco last night did you? I was laughing so hard at them making fun of Andy Samberg and his new show. Actually I was laughing the entire time. It was hilarious.

  29. I'm very intrigued for Brooklyn Nine Nine, hope it lives up to Andy's greatness. What if you wear pumpkin scented scarves, that's a business idea!

  30. Not thrilled about Fall but browsing Pinterest has gotten me excited for booties and other Fall fashion. I am in the need of some good bulky sweaters as well. I am going to have hit up the Goodwill this week just to check out what they have:)

PS. Pumpkin Spice Lattes (PSLs for those lazy asses out there who just don't have the time type it out on their facebook statuses) do nothing for me.

  31. Sweaters, boots, and scarves- basically everything fall fashion.

Also, the return of fall TV shoes- the Mindy Project? Modern Family? So excited!

  32. I am with you on the pumpkin spice thing. Overdone. I also feel like the pumpkin spice latte gets hyped up and then when I go and taste it... it just disappoints.

  33. This post just made me smile for the umpteenth time today. I love fall. I do love pumpkin everything, well almost, but I'm usually shunned for disliking other things like caramel and anything cream-filled so I totally get it. Fall TV looks amazing this year! I have 17 shows on my schedule to watch and I have no idea if I'll find the time. I love living in Chicago during fall. I hope the weather stays more like today only a little cooler. It's going to be amazeballs if it does.

  34. Uhhh, I think I need that pink skirt in the sweater picture. Way cute!

  36. Amen to all of the above, except I'm a PSL girl so... YOU CAN'T SIT WITH US! Just kidding, but I'm also a gingerbread latte girl when the holidays are here... so maybe you're into that?

    ReplyDelete
  37. amen to all of those. especially the back to school shopping. any excuse to shop is good enough for me

  38. TOTALLY with you on cream chunky sweaters! I need to stop myself from buying them.

  39. FINALLY. Another blogger who doesnt love those PSLs from Starbucks or whatever they call them. Whatever happened to apple cider and why must we replace such things.

But seriously, I think you are onto something with the kale chips.

  40. I love boots, fall candles, and knowing that when you come home from work, you aren't wiping sweat from your face from burning up all day! ;)

  41. Love these picks! Fall is the BEST!

  42. I am all about boots and scarves!! The leaves are already dropping around here. It is kinda sad, I want the multiple colors! Though they are different routes I drive. I will take some hot apple cider over Pumpkin spice lattes anyday.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I ordered my regular caramel latte the other morning and the barista (what's with the fancy name?) tried to convince me to get Pumpkin spice instead! WTF? Not a pumpkin fan either.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have never had a spiced pumpkin latte from Starbucks and I don't want to. I'll keep buying my coffee at 7-11. I am looking forward to scarves too. With leggings and knee high boots.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I actually don't like pumpkin spice lattes either so you're not alone. I enjoy not liking them by never having to worry if they will be out of my flavor shot. I actually don't like pumpkin flavored anything so it always seems like I'm a fall hater. I'm not though! I love football, boots, scarves, and much more. Just not pumpkin.
