Negative Comments In Blogland- Basic Bitch Edition

Reading out loud my negative comments- part two.

One of my favorite things about the internet is the platform it gives writers to share their work. Fifty years ago I would have had to keep all of my brilliant musings to myself, or submit to a newspaper or magazine and hope for the best. But not today. In today's world we are lucky enough to share our voice and our opinions with more people than ever before.

But of course there's alway a downside. And the downside to reaching more people, is that you're reaching more people. For a lot of bloggers, it's no longer just our close friends and family reading our stuff. It's people living all over the world who don't technically know you or what you're all about, but for whatever reason have stumbled across your blog and are now reading your writing. And guess what? People aren't always going to like what you have to say.

My first negative comments I received stung. I agonized over them in fact. I wondered why these people who didn't even know me could say such rude stuff? What had I ever done to them? And more importantly, why were they reading my blog if they hated me so much? And after spending way too much time worrying about something that was beyond my control it finally dawned on me why they were doing it. Because they're jealous or spiteful or simply hate me that much? Doubtful. That all just seemed like a stretch to me. And who was I to make such an assumption about people I've never met?

They do it because they can. Plain and simple. And I suppose maybe a few are just angry little elves.

At least that's how I look at it. The truth is that I occasionally read stuff that I hate too, the only difference is I don't comment on it. The world's got enough negativity in it as it is, I'll spare some when I can.

And when I stopped caring about the shitty comments, the humor in them became all the more evident. I suggest you give it a try. It also helps to just be a "basic bitch" in life, as well.

Thus I present to you another installment of reading out loud my negative comments- part two.

    1. Why'd you take down your comment? I found the irony of you leaving a shitty comment on a post about shitty comments quite humorous actually. Let me know if you'd like me to put it back up!

  5. Obviously everything written on the internet is the truth and 100% serious. Why would anyone post something that wasn't serious on the internet? That just wouldn't be right.

  6. I enjoyed this very much! Way to make something positive of other people's negativity. Also, it's reading posts like this that make me really appreciate my small blog status. Very few comments, but all positive!

Oh, and of course I went back to read the "controversial" post in question. I love the list! And I might steal the idea from you for my own post.

  7. I love that you can see the humor in it. Sometimes I really let it bother me. I do think Rihanna was commenting on this. #basic

  9. I think people are comfortable writing negative things because they don't have to say them to your face. I've noticed that in comments on websites in general people can be very mean. When hiding behind ones computer, the repercussions for being hateful are pretty much nonexistent, hence people feel like they can get away with it. If I don't like or agree with something I usually don't post or politely disagree. If you don't have anything nice to say...go read another blog.

  12. It never ceases to amaze me how ugly people can be when they think they're being anonymous. Like you said, when I read things on blogs or the internet I don't like, I keep my mouth shut, plain and simple. I think it's wonderful that you are able to find the comedy in them.

    1. lol, I think that she was referring to Rihanna...(RiRi)...did you see the naked dress she wore to the CFDAs? It was crazy. More power to her, but I would NEVER want my fictional daughter to wear it!

  26. It's so weird because I hear about people getting negative comments all the time, but it rarely happens to me. I think if I got comments like those, I would feel like I've arrived or something.
