Save The Date

For some reason I’ve been really bad at leisure reading lately. I’ve always been an avid reader, but within the last few months I haven’t read nearly as much as I usually like to. So it’s a goal of mine this summer to set aside some time to put my phone down, ipad away, computer turned off and just read. Because yes, I’m one of those people who still likes to read books the old fashioned way. There’s just something about holding a book in my hand that I prefer over an ipad.

Since I have about ten weddings to go to this summer, it seemed fitting to start with this one. Save The Date by Mary Kay Andrews.

“Bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews writes novels that are funny, smart, and heartfelt. In SAVE THE DATE, one Savannah florist must decide if love really does exist outside of fairy tales — it’s so good you will want to RSVP!”

My reading preferences are all across the board. I like to read memoirs, sad stories, mysteries, nonfiction, satire, and then there are those that I call “light and fluffy” because they are a pretty easy read and they can just pick you up and take you away to a new world. I would definitely consider it a light read. It’s easy to get into, the characters are all pretty likable, and it’s just one of those enjoyable stories that is easy follow along. It’s a perfect summer book read by the beach or pool.

I always find it pretty humorous to read about bridezillas and since the main character in this story is a florist, she has to deal with plenty of them. I just can’t imagine being as nutty about a wedding as some of these women are. I know they’re obviously fictional characters, but we all know real-life bridezillas exist.

I don’t know where I went wrong as a kid, but I’ve never been the girl who dreams about her “big day.” Of course I want to have a great wedding some day, but it’s never been this huge priority for me to make sure that it’s the best day of my life. But who knows, I’m sure that could all change as time goes on. Perhaps when the day comes that Chris and I eventually decide to take the plunge and transition our seven year dating relationship into a “married relationship” I’ll become that bridezilla I get such a kick out of reading about.

In the meantime the biggest priority for me when planning a wedding is whether or not there will be an open bar.

I L.O.V.E. weddings, so choosing my favorite thing is hard! Hmmmm…I think it might be when the bride walks down the aisle…watching the groom's reaction to seeing her (even if they've already done a "first look") and also watching her interact with her dad (or whoever is giving her away). Such a sweet moment.

  2. June 3, 2014 / 9:50 am

I love all of the traditional stuff… The first dance, father daughter dance, garter toss etc. I really really enjoy weddings!

  3. June 3, 2014 / 9:53 am

I love being around when the father sees the bride for the first time. Such a sweet moment to give away his little girl!

  4. June 3, 2014 / 9:54 am

I love weddings in their entirety… But the dancing and open bar combo is definitely my favorite part!!!

  5. June 3, 2014 / 9:54 am

I had seven weddings last year — my favorite part is seeing my best friends so happy for sure. Cheesy, but true.

  6. June 3, 2014 / 10:04 am

i am with you- i like an actual book in my hand. i like light and fluffy books. and of course- open bar is the most important. well that and dancing.

  7. June 3, 2014 / 10:07 am

My fav thing about weddings is that just for those few hours.. I get caught up in the feeling of love in the air and how romantic it all is! Even if it's back to reality after that and there really are no fairytales, in that moment, it seems like there is!

  8. June 3, 2014 / 10:09 am

When I saw the title of this post I thought it was going to be about a movie of the same name. I'd say it's very different from your description of this book, but you know, it's hard to tell a story involving a wedding without a crazy bride. It's one of those darker comedies.

  9. June 3, 2014 / 10:09 am

I was that girl that had been dreaming of her wedding since she was little but I was so far from a bridezilla. The most bridezilla thing I did was make my bridesmaids get the same dress. Because I'm OCD and they all had to look relatively the same. But I let them choose their own shoes, jewelry, and hairstyle. I know the traditional bridesmaid gift is jewelry. I gave mine their favorite wine, a wine glass decorated in my wedding colors, a wine stopper, and wine charms 🙂
My favorite part about weddings is there ceremony. I'm such a sap. The vows, the first kiss, the walking down the aisles, the hugging the parents. It all makes me cry like a baby.
And you can't beat free drinks, dinner, and cake! It's pretty much a free date night and who can complain about that?!

  10. June 3, 2014 / 10:21 am

My two favorite things about weddings are definitely the music/dancing and the drinks. Signature cocktails, pitchers of beer, shots, rum punch… whatev. I'm not picky!

  11. June 3, 2014 / 10:26 am

The cake!!!! 🙂 Actually, I think seeing the groom's face when he first sees his bride would be my most favorite part.

  12. June 3, 2014 / 10:30 am

Favorite part of a wedding? The food and the bar. I keep it classy, what can I say.

  13. June 3, 2014 / 10:52 am

My favorite part is a genuinely funny toast where the bride and groom look at each other and laugh with love in their eyes. First laugh as husband and wife!

  14. June 3, 2014 / 10:56 am

My favorite part is seeing the couple so in love. It makes the world seem a little better for the night

  15. June 3, 2014 / 11:18 am

My favorite part is the cake. I love cake. And open bar. And the cha-cha slide.

  16. June 3, 2014 / 11:28 am

I love Mary kay Andrews Ive read all her books at my library Im def going to read this one!
My fave thing about weddings… The grooms first look at the bride as shes walking down the aisle.

  17. June 3, 2014 / 12:12 pm

My favorite part of weddings is the alcohol! I really don't know if I could bring myself to attend a dry wedding.

  18. June 3, 2014 / 12:34 pm

I L-O-V-E weddings and reading, thanks for the book suggestions! My favorite part of weddings is watching the groom when the bride comes down the aisle, his face is always priceless. The drinks are not usually bad either 🙂

  19. June 3, 2014 / 12:45 pm

This looks like a great book! Easy lake read. My favorite thing about weddings is connecting with friends and family you may have not seen in a while. The reception is the best part and of course the cake! 🙂

  20. June 3, 2014 / 12:52 pm

I always cry at weddings! My favorite thing is actually watching two people promise to love each other forever!

  21. June 3, 2014 / 1:01 pm

My favorite part about wedding is right after they kiss, the part where they are husband and wife. It is so special!

  22. June 3, 2014 / 1:25 pm

My favorite thing about weddings I'm attending is open bar and fun music! When it came to my own wedding I wanted my guests to enjoy the party, and years later they are still talking about how fun it was, so I succeeded!

  23. June 3, 2014 / 1:49 pm

oh gosh, weddings are kind of my favorite thing ever. i love pretty much everything about them but if i had to choose just ONE thing, it would probably be the little details. wedding invites, favors, cute little table centerpieces, all of those little things that come together that make a wedding so special are the best. c:

  24. June 3, 2014 / 2:43 pm

Oh weddings are so fun – the cake, the Champagne!, dancing, seeing friends, but I think my favorite is hearing the vows. If the couple goes with the traditional vows, it reminds me of our wedding and makes me emotional. I feel like every time I hear them it reinforces the promises my husband and I have made to each other, and they hold more meaning with each year that goes by in our marriage. If the couple have written their own, I'm always impressed for one, and they usually say the sweetest things to each other! It's THE BEST!!

  25. June 3, 2014 / 3:12 pm

The best part of a wedding, hands down, is the cake. A shitty cake (esp if the food is equally as gross) can ruin the whole night!

  26. June 3, 2014 / 3:29 pm

Favorite thing about weddings? obviously the cocktail hour!

  27. June 3, 2014 / 3:57 pm

I LOVE watching two people pledge their love to one another. I also love Cocktail hour!!

  28. June 3, 2014 / 4:13 pm

I love a good wedding reception atmosphere; everyone just happy, dancing, and drinking.

  29. June 3, 2014 / 4:45 pm

The cake is by far the best thing about weddings!

  30. June 3, 2014 / 5:00 pm

I might be a little corny to say this but my favourite thing about weddings is the unity of two people and families and the excitement that a new future is formed. Yes corny but totes why I love and always cry at weddings!

  31. June 3, 2014 / 5:05 pm

Open bar and dancing for sure! Weddings should be a celebration!

  32. June 3, 2014 / 5:11 pm

My favorite thing about weddings is getting the chance to see two people excited to start their new life together, and being able to get dressed up!

  33. June 3, 2014 / 5:24 pm

Dancing has got to be my favorite part of weddings. I could care less what my future wedding will be like as long as everyone leaves saying they danced the night away.

  34. June 3, 2014 / 5:49 pm

My favorite thing about weddings is the music and the dance floor. I'm always extra excited to get my groove on. And some of my favorite weddings to go to are the Hispanic weddings that play Cumbia and Salsa so I can move my hips and dance to music that I don't often listen to on a daily basis.

  35. June 3, 2014 / 6:43 pm

My favorite thing about weddings is the first dance, the cake feeding (if I had to choose one thing it would be this! ha!), the ambiance of love, and the smiles on everyone's faces! =)

  36. June 3, 2014 / 6:50 pm

I love weddings because I love a good reason to get dressed up. Since I don't always know the bride or groom myself I'm just as guilty as ever other girl as a good reason to buy a new dress and get dolled up. I also love well having a date to attend the wedding with to dance with!

  37. June 3, 2014 / 8:00 pm

That is my goal, too! I am a definite reader and take time to read each day, but I need to make the effort to stop with all the technology and actually get out this summer. Also, I love weddings because I can dress up for them, something I rarely get to do anymore;)

  38. June 3, 2014 / 8:07 pm

    Getting dressed up and dancing.,

  39. June 3, 2014 / 8:27 pm

I love reading! I agree, there is just something about holding a real book in your hands! I am a major fan of weddings! I will definitely have to read this book!

  40. June 3, 2014 / 8:29 pm

My favorite thing about weddings are the personal details that are included that are a reflection of the couple. It's always fun to see what little details they chose to include.

  41. June 3, 2014 / 10:02 pm

My favorite part about weddings, how could I pick? I love the romance, and the food, and the fun.

  42. June 3, 2014 / 10:16 pm

I love the vows & toasts! Also everything else, I'm a lil obsessed.

  43. June 3, 2014 / 10:20 pm

The best part is when the bride walks down the aisle! I love to read books the old-fashion way with the real book. I like to be able to hold it, turn the pages and use a bookmark to mark my spot.

  44. June 3, 2014 / 10:39 pm

I go to weddings for the free food and dancing!

  45. June 3, 2014 / 11:07 pm

I love all the happiness and love that you see at weddings – not to mention the open bars are pretty dang awesome. Save The Date sounds like a great book! I've heard a lot of good things about Mary Kay Andrews.

  46. June 3, 2014 / 11:24 pm

Love seeing father/daughter toast and dance!

  47. June 4, 2014 / 10:05 am

The father-daughter dance gets me every time! I'm a sucker for that stuff!

  48. June 4, 2014 / 11:13 am

I like the reception when everyone is now at ease and ready to celebrate!

  49. June 4, 2014 / 11:35 am

My favorite thing about weddings is seeing the bride walk down the isle to her groom, and seeing the tearful I do's and being named Husband and Wife!

  50. June 4, 2014 / 1:55 pm

My favorite thing about a wedding is the food.
