We Got Lolla’d

Six years ago on August 3rd we took this dark photo in a field in Indiana at a Radiohead concert. Chris was turning twenty-two and I couldn’t believe how old he was. Notice both of our “cute” hoodies.  His was from a cheap store in Spain and I’m wearing an “Italia” sweatshirt. How college of us.

And six years later, we are still doing the same thing. Because we’re the lost boys of Never Neverland refusing to grow up… Or something like that.

Chris is actually just a big music festival kind of guy and every year on his birthday I like to pretend I am too.

He goes to all three days of Lolla but I can usually only handle one. I’m just not cool enough to listen to that much music without getting a little antsy or feeling like I need a shower.

Although I will say yesterday was a really good day with a lot of awesome music. My favorites were Chromeo, The Avett Brothers and Kings of Leon. All three were amazing. The Avett Brothers might just be moving into my top five at the moment. I’m just a sucker for a banjo.

And then it started to rain and things got a bit muddy. This is a gross photo but I need you to see what we were standing in. And what others were rolling in. There might be a pun there, see if you can find it.

And this is what the train ride looked like. When we got home I had mud in places where mud shouldn’t be. I guess you could say we all got lolla’d.

I’d love to write a longer recap about Lolla and my thoughts on being surrounded by millions of teenagers “tripping and stuff” (and maybe I will at a later time) but per the usual Monday is getting the best of me and I have a million things to do. The first thing on my list (and most important) is re-writing my hot dog song and even putting a few dance moves with it because it’s going in our Second City show tonight at 9 p.m.! And I might be just a little bit nervous about it. I don’t want my hot dog song to suck, you know? It’s gotta be a good hot dog song.

On that note, does anyone have a hot dog costume I can borrow?

"Although I will say yesterday was a really good day with a lot of awesome music. My favorites were Chromeo, The Avett Brothers and Kings of Leon. All three were amazing." You took the words right out of my mouth. I went all 3 days but yesterday was by far my fave. Hadn't listened to Chromeo before, but he killed it!! I'll be doing my Lolla recap sometime this week if you wanna check it out!

Love the Avett brothers! And no, I just could NOT handle that mud. I'm with you, I'm not big on music festivals. Or mud.

Your poor cute shoes! I hope you were able to clean them!
I'm sorry but all I can focus on from this post is the muddy shoes.

I don't think I could survive a music festival. Especially if there is that much mood involved!

Where did Chris get that fanny pack?! It's awesome and way better than the gross all black one my husband keeps wearing around. He needs one like this that is comical so you can be like, "hey, I know it's hilarious I'm wearing a fanny pack, right?" but then still use it for storing all your stuff. Standing in the mud like that seems crazy! Glad it was such a fun time hearing the bands, though!
