December Favorites

Ready for a random re-cap post of sorts? Okay great, let’s jump in.
First of all, what do you do when your mom comes to Chicago for less than 48 hours?
If you have a mom who has more energy than you and runs on about five hours of sleep per night the answer is everything. We hit up almost all of my favorite spots in less than two days. It was wonderful. So just a forewarning this is going to be a pretty heavy foody post, because that’s basically all we did- eat really heavy food.
Our list included champagne at The Drake Hotel, a spot I absolutely love during the holidays. Some people (Chris) say it’s for the grey hairs, but I’ve always enjoyed drinking with the grey hairs so that’s probably why I like it. It has a very classic feel inside and it makes you feel like you’ve time travelled back to the Mad Men era.

We both hated this photo but whatever. Sorry, mom!

The next on our list was a great Japanese spot by our house called Juno. It was hands down the best Japanese I have ever had. I don’t even know what these little spoonfuls of heaven were exactly but they were incredible.

Ramen doesn’t photograph good, but I promise you it tastes amazing.

For lunch we ate at Del Seoul and had Korean tacos and Kimchi fries.

*Image stolen from google because rather than taking photos of fries I made my mom pose for a photo instead.

And then of course there was the iconic burger from Au Cheval for dinner.

Not pictured: drinks at The Barrelhouse Flat- a bar that feels as if it’s straight out of Boardwalk Empire. Remember how I said I like old-timey bars? I wasn’t lying. There was also a stop at Girl & The Goat somewhere in there as well.

So if you’re coming to Chicago soon, hit up any one of those spots and you won’t be disappointed.

As for right now, I’m trying to figure out a way to get a human-sized cozy cave like the one Harlow has. I keep crawling in his, but he’s starting to get a little pissy with me.

And lastly, let’s focus on my new favorite vest of winter. (I told you this post was going to be all over the place.)

I got this vest last week while I was visiting my parents in Norfolk at a great boutique called Three Eighteen On The Avenue. I stop by every time I’m home and always find something.

I swear this isn’t me doing the “I’m not looking” fashion blogger pose. I actually thought I saw a snake in the rocks. I didn’t. But I did just have an a-ha moment, maybe that’s what all fashion bloggers are doing when they’re mysteriously looking over their shoulder? They’re looking for snakes.

And a close-up just to really see what we’re working with here.

Three Eighteen is being super gracious and offering one of you the chance to win a $40 gift card toward some holiday shopping. So take a gander and let me know what you think, I suggest starting with this holiday dress or this striped vest. Just enter below!

And Norfolk friends, stop by this store asap! You won’t be disappointed.
