One can learn a lot about themselves by taking a peak into their journal from twenty years ago. For instance it totally makes sense to me now why I have a problem with authority and why my goals/expectations for life are completely unrealistic.
Back in 1996 our writing prompt for the day was to write about “The Great One.” And who did I choose? Well myself of course.
Part 1: I Don’t Want To Brag.
Birth order is such an interesting topic to me. I really won the lottery being the youngest. Sure my brother and sister often ganged up on me and were very very cruel to me, like the infamous birthday trip from hell in Disney World, but for the most part I had it good. By the time the third child rolls around parents are just so hungover from the first two they’re willing to do whatever to make you happy. It’s quite wonderful actually.
However enabling might be a bit of a problem down the road. For example my mom still pays for my movie tickets when she comes to Chicago and my sister still has to pay for her own… But my sister has a lot more money than me.
Part II- A Feminist I Was Not.
Lesson to be learned here: if there’s something you can’t handle just call a man in to take care of the job! Men can do anything, women not so much.
However it must be noted that I was quite good at writing backward! Oh the talent.

Hahaha! I love your childhood stories. My youngest sister lucked out, too. I was the rebellious one and I caused my parents so much trouble that nothing she did caused even a ripple in comparison. She had basically no rules. Well, she does have to pay for herself. But then again, she has a lot more money than me. 😛
LOL! I was the baby too, but also kind of an only child because my brother is actually my half brother, 10 years older than me. So I'm never sure where I fall in the birth order! BTW, your teacher that wrote the notes on your assignment was awesome!
bwahahaha I LOVE going back and looking at old journals. I absolutely loved writing as a kid (and still do, I just don't do it as much as I would like) and I wrote alllllll the time. One of my favorite journal entries I recently found:
"Dear Diary,
This is going to be short today, I am going swimming."
HAHAHAHA!!
Also, I love birth order. I really relate to Adlerian theories and find birth order fascinating! One of the first questions I always ask kids when they come to my office is to tell me about their siblings and their ages. (I'm a school counselor.)

Haha I love this! I found my journal from 7th grade and it was hysterical – definitely explains why I have a good self image now because I didn't care what anyone said about me then!

Pretty sure I wrote some of the most "special" stuff ever. I have a distinct memory of my third grade teacher trying to convince me to say "expecting" in place of "pregnant". What? I'd never even heard of "expecting". Bitch, I said, "pregnant", now let's move on!

I just read something the other day from elementary school from myself and it went along the lines of "If I could, I would give each of my parents a million dollars, but I would give John (my older brother) $100 because he is mean. So mean." Love the honesty of kids! HAHA!

I was the oldest and I agree that the younger siblings definitely get special treatment. My younger brother and cousin (who is more like a sister) claim that I "tortured" them as well but we have differing opinions! I also think men can do more than women, or that's what I let my husband believe anyway!
