The Summer Bender

Ten days ago we left for a camping trip and I’ve been on a bit of a summer bender ever since. Drinks and eats and parties almost every night. It’s taken me nearly twenty minutes just to write one sentence. Every part of my body and mind is feeling sluggish and gross.

I think I may have over done it just slightly. I’ve never been more excited to get back to my own bed and back to reality.

My plan was to get up at 6:00 a.m. today and attack the day. The house is a mess- there’s actually a tent in my living room right now, groceries need to be purchased, so many work emails to respond to… No more messing around.

But then my alarm went off at 5:45 a.m. and I shot up thinking “WHERE AM I? WHAT’S GOING ON?” And then I figured it out and immediately hit snooze and went back to bed for two hours. Oh hell no I said to myself. All that crap that needs to be done will have to wait. I need sleepy.

So here I am. Harlow is passed out next to me in his standard lake-hungover coma. My to-do is so overwhelming I’m just going to stare at it for hours thinking about how overwhelming it is rather than actually do anything. Mondays are my favorite day to catch up on anxiety I’ve hidden away from the weekend.

Sure, I could show you photos of myself sitting here right now in weird old Christmas boxer shorts and a t-shirt covered in soy sauce from the Chinese food I spilled on myself last night. The room I’m sitting in is splattered with piles of road trip leftovers, things like reusable groceries bags full of phone cords, dirty socks and sandals, towels, and Pringles cans. My hair might be a little too similar to a Joe Dirt mullet at the moment and the bags under my eyes look like I’ve been crying for hours- I haven’t. Just on a summer bender is all.

But instead I’m going to show you some pretty filtered photos. It’s more fun for me, I hope you understand. On a day where I’m nervous everything is going to come crashing in on me I prefer to live in the blissful past for just a few more minutes…

I like you, America. But you’re crazy. You throw bday parties like no one else.

Okay time to go to a hundred million things. See you tomorrow.

Mondays are rough – especially after holiday/long weekends! I had the same exact feeling when my alarm went off.. although I couldn't snooze in πŸ™ let's hope this week isn't too painful!

I can't believe I got up and worked out this morning. My tan hurts and I have margarita bloat…and if that isn't a first world problem, I don't know what is!

Looks like y'all had the best time at the lake! Why is that coming back from vacation is always super stressful? It seems like it completely negates any relaxing you actually did on vacation!

I couldn't even figure out how to turn my computer on at work this morning. I planned on taking a shower and washing my hair. . . figured a 4th day of dry shampoo won't hurt anybody. Mondays are hard.

I hope you had a lovely 4th of July. It sure looks like it!

Ease back into the week. The tent isn't going to hurt anyone if it's still there tomorrow.

Harlow is so cute! I know how you feel. I've been on a mini vacation and I come back and I can't adult or comprehend at the moment. Come back in 4 days. lol. πŸ˜€

Your vacation looked so peaceful and amazing. The snooze button and I are well acquainted. There is literally no sleep that is sweeter than the sleep you get when you know you should be doing something else. I had a 5-day summer teaser, and then I had to go back to work today for two more weeks before officially starting my six weeks of summer vacation (the perks of a teacher's schedule). I can't wait!

Hell yeah there are times when you just need to roll over and go back to sleep, although usually it doesn't happen because once I am awake I am awake and that means I am up and doing stuff
