What I Did This Weekend Rather Than Blog

Monday, October 12, 2015

Instead of blogging, here's what I was up to this weekend.

Walked: all over the city. Posed by random cars. Just another weekend in the Windy City.

Ate: A lot of stuff... thus all the walking.

Kumas's burgers. It's a good thing they play that awful heavy metal music or I would be in there every day.

Made: first batch of chili.

This always feels like a monumental occasion for some reason. I also started the debate on Instagram as to whether the chili and cinnamon roll combo is a Nebraska thing or not. I think I learned it's a Nebraska/Iowa thing. And I also learned the tradition may have been born where all great things are: the school cafeteria.

And of course there was a cheese plate or two.

Watched: our Huskers lose. Again...

We were sitting next to Wisco fans who kept obnoxiously shouting "man, there's a LOT of Nebraska people here." Good observation, Wisco person! That tends to happen when you go to a NEBRASKA bar to watch a NEBRASKA game.

shirt found here.

Scooted: everywhere.

Sunday was about the best day ever. In my head I was secretly telling myself it was the first nice day of the year rather than the last... My winter anxiety is setting in fast and hard.

Read: What Alice Forgot.

It's been a while since I've almost read an entire book in a day. I'm obsessed with this one. I'm sure you've read it, what do you think? Somehow the author makes me feel nostalgic about where I'm at in life at this very moment. It's weird, but it's good.

I might write a more in depth post about it tomorrow: What Taylor Forgot. We'll pretend I just woke up and somehow forgot the past ten years of my life. Oddly enough, that's a little how I feel every Monday morning anyway.

Mondays. woof.

  3. I read that book a few months ago. I'm currently reading her book "Big Little Lies." Having a hard time getting back into the swing of reading though, it's taking me a while to get into this one.

  4. What Alice Forgot was so unexpectedly sweet without being cheesy or trite. I loved it.

  5. Taylor I think I saw you! I'm from Ohio but I ran in the Chicago marathon and swear I saw you at mile 9 or 10. I almost ran over but I was sweaty and then I remembered you wouldn't know me :)

  6. What Alice Forgot was good, but my least favorite of Liane Moriarty's books. If you liked it I suggest reading her others! Especially Big Little Lies. So good!

  7. Your pictures make me want to go back to Chicago. It is my favorite city to visit and you are making me lust after it. I am also jealous that it is cool enough for chili out there, here it's still triple digits, yuck!

  8. I loved What Alice Forgot! It was such a great book, and my favorite from that author. Cheese trays are the best, and yours looked especially festive!

  9. Winter anxiety is a real thing. It starts for me right around the time tulips and daffodils die off for the summer.

  11. Dang lady, you could be a fashion blogger with that outfit and that car pose. You look great! I have never tried chili with a side of cinnamon roll but now I can't imagine why you wouldn't pair those two together... looks like i've got Sunday's meal planned out. Thanks! haha

  12. Ah, the Chicago winter blues are hitting me too! I just want it to be summer again. I don't think I could do another five days of -20 degrees. We were stuck inside for like a week! Hope this winter is better. I love that you tried Kuma's. I can't believe I haven't tried them yet. Heard great things. There's one right down the street from where I commute.

    Have a great weekend!

  13. I lived in Iowa for a year, but never had the opportunity to indulge in the chili-cinnamon roll combo! But, damn it if that don't sound delicious! What Alice Forgot sounds like such a unique, intriguing read! I will definitely have to pick that one up!

  20. I loved What Alice Forgot too! I totally get the nostalgia like we are the young and happy version (and hopefully stay that way- happy not young obviously). I've never heard of the chili/cinnamon roll combo but I appreciate it.
