Making A Blogger

The fun thing about this week of purgatory between Christmas and New Years Eve is that I feel like I have a little more free reign to ramble on this blog. As opposed to those other days when I have so much direction...

So here's what's on my mind today.

*Isn't it funny we live in a world where a stupid photo like the one you see above is a thing? I just can't get into it. Yes, I occasionally post them on Insta. But 9 times out of 10 I'll delete them after ten minutes because I can't handle the shame I place on myself for doing so. I like YOUR view from above photos, not mine.

But like, yea, I'll probably post it today anyway because WHY NOT.

*The winter has arrived in Chicago. I snapped Harlow's first day rolling in snow like a maniac a few hours ago. You can find him @thedailytay.

*I binge watched Making A Murder yesterday. I'm too angry to even put into words my feelings about that doc. Please tell me if you've seen it so we can bitch together! The corruption and cover up is INSANE! They didn't just ruin Steven's life, but they had to take down his entire family as well. I won't say anymore because I don't want to spoil it. But do yourself a favor and watch it because I'm going to write a full post on it next week.

Last thing I'll say about it, Kratz is filthy human being. His rat voice makes my skin crawl. And no, I'm not being too harsh.

On to happier things... like puppies!!!!

Everyone got a puppy for Christmas and I have intense puppy fever. But... I'm not sure I'll ever get a puppy again. Anyone else struggle with this? For ME (this has nothing to do with you and your choices) for me personally, given what I know now, I just think I would feel too guilty not adopting a rescue pup. It just doesn't sit right with me.

Harlow was not a rescue. And it's hard to say I regret that choice because it's Harlow. I can't regret him. But ... so there's so many sweet rescues. My brother and his wife (first time I've said he has a wife, weird!!!) have two awesome rescues. One is a gigantic scary looking pit bull named Sammie who has a severe burn all the way down his back from his previous owners doing God knows what to him. And yet Sammie is more docile and well behaved than Harlow will ever be.

So.

So I don't even know why I'm rambling about this because we can't get another dog for a few years anyway. But that's not to say I don't think about it every day anyway.

It's purgatory week, I'm allowed to ramble.

Lastly, cat lovers get excited! Next week I'll be revealing my first cat shirt and I'm a huge fan of it and hope you will be too. Just like with the dog shirts 20% of profits go back to helping animals in shelters.

In 2016 my goal is to give $10,000 to shelters. It's lofty, I know (I've always been a dreamer, you should know that by now.) But I really think it can be done. I've got some other ideas on how to reach this amount. Reader poll: if I make another (different) dog shirt, would you be likely to buy it even if you've already purchased the original?

And today's post has been brought to you by all of the coffee!

There's only three more days left of 2015. Make them count!

  1. A rescue dog is definitely the way to go! We got our collie/spaniel mix from a shelter when she was 5 months old. I couldn't believe a puppy had been there a MONTH without being adopted! But they insisted she was antisocial and aggressive. It's been 2.5 years and I have yet to see anything antisocial and aggressive about her, but I sure am glad they told all the other potential adopters that so they wouldn't take her home!

  2. I gotta put my 2 cents in on rescues. i think everyone should rescue BUT there are also benefits of getting a dog from an established breeder. 1. preserving the breed 2. using them for their intended purposes. millie is a spaniel and bird hunting dog and hugo is a guard dog/does police dog work. if you look at it that way it makes sense. but yes, for the majority of the people that just want a pet they should 100% rescue a dog. SORRY FOR THE NOVEL

    1. I agree with Helene PLUS a lot of dogs that don't get purchased from breeders end up in shelters anyway. Peyton was a Craigslist find from a family whose dog got pregnant and didn't want puppies. I think rescue dogs are great, but I wouldn't feel guilty NOT getting a rescue ESPECIALLY if your setting such an incredible goal to give back to the shelters!

  4. My sister and her husband have told us about a million times that we need to watch Making A Murderer, so I think that we need to watch it soon! I love seeing all of the snaps of Harlow on Snapchat! It makes me happy! I know exactly how you feel about wanting to adopt a rescue next. We bought our Dart from a breeder and even though we love him and wouldn't know what to do without him, I know that the next dog we get will be a rescue. Good thing for us there's a huge Greyhound rescue where we live! And I would totally buy another dog shirt! I bought three of the I Just Want To Hang With My Dog shirts and gave them to people for gifts (obviously I kept one for myself) because they're so awesome. Plus the fact that they donate to shelters is awesome!

  5. I had to stop at episode 5 last night. I was so mad, irritated and appalled this was allowed to happen. As of now, the evidence is not there. Plus I have serious doubts he was motivated enough to pull off something this elaborate. I'm going to stop rambling until I finish it all...tonight.

  6. Hi Tay, I'm Ashlee, a new follower of your blog and I'm glad to jump on board right before the new year!

I am a shameless picture poster of the photo above...I too have deleted them after posting them though. So I'm like "well, here is another picture of my coffee cup of the day," and it gets a lot of likes. This is our world now, people like hipster photos of coffee cups. No shame!

I really want to watch Making a Murder, it looks interesting, I guess that is what I will be doing today in between writing like a mad person. and then we can bitch about it together! haha

  7. Gah, I have so much too say about dogs when it comes too adopting or buying from a breeder. But I'll just keep my mouth duct taped. Anyway, once again I'm stoked about your upcoming shirts!! EEK

  8. I would love the dog shirt in a v-neck if you're open to suggestions! I would buy for sure :)

And as far as the rescue vs. purchase argument, I'd say I could go either way as well! My boyfriend and I each have rescue pups whom we absolutely love; prior to that, I've always had breeder poodles, each of which have been amazing dogs. I would say the only absolute "no-no" for me is puppy mill puppies. But hey, every dog needs a home right? Tough call!

  9. I watched most of it and overhead a lot while Tim was binge-watching. He told me the tape that was on his blood in evidence that keeps it secure was all ripped open! I was like hello.. that's pretty telling...

  10. Also..... with 3 rescue dogs (and 2 rescue cats) you know my feelings! Lennox was a rescue AND a puppy.. so you don't have to buy to get a puppy. I will definitely always rescue now, but no more puppies! Getting Bear and Piper at an age where they were already potty-trained was WAYYYY better.

Also, Bear is a Rottie who we rescued.. So I always tell people who are wanting a specific breed to still look at surrounding humane societies because they could still get what they want and save a life!

  11. You already knowwwwww. Fist bump. Watching MAM tonight, we never made it last night after all.

But all the hugs and fist bumps and heart eyes. CATS AND DOGS AND RESCUE RESCUE RESCUE. Remember when Facebook was just pictures of our drunk college friends?? Now ..

  13. My fiance and I had some guilt adopting our pug recently, but he was a dog that had been used for stud by a breeder for a few years (his litters weren't what she'd hoped for) and when we went to pick him up, it was immediately obvious that he'd have a much better home with us. So we didn't rescue him, but also we did. I'm justifying myself a little here because I feel like we should have gone to the shelter.

    1. I don't think you should ever feel the need to justify why you got the pet you did. whatever works for you!

  14. I have some serious puppy fever too and in the recent years I definitely want to adopt a rescue. I'd totally be down buying a dog shirt, especially since proceeds go to help animal shelters...I love your goal!! Also I'm an episode into MAM and oh.em.gee!!! I wish I didn't have to sleep/eat/work so I could binge watch it, eek I'll try finishing before your post next week!

  15. I think donating that much to a shelter is a FANTASTIC goal and I am so excited to see your cat tshirt. Happy New Year!

  16. I feel you on the dog thing too. My dog was a rescue, but I understand the appeal of getting a puppy and knowing what your getting, verses getting the mystery puppy at the pound (like our jack russell puppy turned into a 40 pound greyhound mix). It's hard though because over 50% of the animals in the Nashville shelter are euthanized every month. Animals in the south are treated horribly compared to northern states. So as long as I'm a southern, I feel like I have to save the dogs. But whenever I do get another pound puppy again, I'm taking it to puppy training, where it lives with a trainer for a few weeks and learns all the puppy commands and housebreaking.

  17. One. I am wanting to watch Making of a Murderer.

Two. Please tell me your cat shirts say something like "I purrrrfer my cat".

  18. After fostering every age of dog, I'm so good on ever having a puppy... I like them with a little more life experience haha. Obviously I will always be for #adoptdontshop ;p Would love to see what you have planned for a new dog shirt!

  19. Yay!!! I've been waiting for a cat shirt!!!

  20. I found your blog a couple weeks ago and love it!! I had to comment today because my blog is about my adventures with my dog Cocoa. And I am going to buy the shirt and love that you are giving to rescues!! I want to be able to monetize my blog and give 25% to rescues. I have to make some cash on it first but am excited to support your blog and mission!!

  21. I am scared to read any other comments because I have a few more episodes of Making a Murderer left but I am already SO ANGRY. I seriously can't believe this actually all happened. It's all very scary. And I have a feeling I am going to be just as mad when I finish the last episode!

  22. Oh.Em.Gee. Binge watched all of "Making a Murderer" this past weekend. WTH?! I was angry too! Two words - reasonable doubt. It's utterly disgusting what they did to the Avery family, not to mention, there has been no justice served for Teresa's murder. Ugh. :(

  23. I can't stop thinking about Making a Murderer and I have been gobbling up everything I can find that has been written about it and want to talk about it to everyone I can. It is just crazy, as many others above said, GUILTY BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT and how could you NOT have doubt? And ESPECIALLY for poor Brandon, who had NO evidence whatsoever against him except a coerced confession. It just breaks my heart.

  24. Yes would totally buy a second dog shirt! And...there's something very wrong with Teresa's ex boyfriend (besides his grammar).

  26. Ok I watched about ten minutes of how to make a murderer last night before my husband was like, "can you turn that depressing show off." I was super into it though so I can't wait to binge it when he goes back to work next week haha. And yes, I would 110% buy another dog shirt because I'm obsessed with mine. And I'm with you on having those feelings about rescues. I didn't really consider myself a dog person before we got ours, but now I am really into saving all the dogs too. I sometimes feel so horrible about the money we paid for our dog (he's "showdog" genes lol) but I of course can't imagine my life without him now. But I don't think I would do it again. There's too many babies out there who need a home. Talk about depressing lol..

  30. I always feel so guilty when people ask if our pit bull was a rescue, she wasn't.. we we're turned away from three shelters because we rent, the process was ridiculous! Is Making a Murder on the Netflix? I definitely need a new binge :)

  32. I loved this post for 2 reasons: adopting rescues and your $10k goal. I have 2 rescues, a lab mix and a pit bull. My bullie is the most docile pet I have ever come across and we love her. They tried fighting her but she's not a fighter and as a result they were going to put her out so my husband happened to be at a neighborhood store when the kid walked up with her. He took her straight home to me and met our lab mix Nala and they are the best of friends. I washed her up and she's been our little lazy cow ever since. My son is 1 yr old and he crawls all over her and she just lays there and will lick him. However, I have a desire to own several hundred acres within the next 5 years and I look forward to fostering and adopting animals. I've written this into my Definite Purpose and read my 2pg goals twice daily, and meditate on it for about 30 mins daily. As far as your $10,000 goal I know you can accomplish it and even exceed it. I'm sure you know to write down your goals I'm work towards accomplishing them daily but also envision the $10,000 already in your bank account and meditate on your desires everyday and the money will come easily. A strong burning desire backed by faith will surely make it happen. I'm not sure if you've ever heard of Napoleon Hill or his book Think and Grow Rich but it is the basis of my definite purpose and has helped me accomplish numerous goals. Following his methods make it easy for anyone to attain any of their desires.

  35. first off I cant wait to see the cat shirt. Second, I don't even know what to think abut Making a Murderer. There are some really interesting articles going around talking about evidence that is left out of the doc. I don't know what to think!!! But I'm still angry! Some things, it doesn't matter the evidence, some things were WRONG through and through.
