17 Signs You Might Be An Old School Blogger

You started blogging before Instagram was a thing. And now that it is a thing you’re still struggling to set the “tone” of your feed… Help me, I’m lost @thedailytay.

You remember GFC in its heyday.

In fact, you might still have a GFC button on your blog because you just can’t let go. Cough cough.

You remember that day when Bloglovin suddenly blew up.

Twitter used to be your main social media priority.

You used to do button swapping.

You secretly kind of hate “Instagram bloggers.”

You had a blog before Pinterest.

You used Picmonkey.com before “TRASHHAND” was an option.

You find yourself saying things like, “ya, but my actual blog gets way more views…”

You remember when PassionFruit was born.

You might also recall when so many bloggers claimed they “would NEVER use PassionFruit” but then two weeks later immediately caved because why the hell not.

You have posts in your archives without any photos.

Your site is still on blogger.com.

You find yourself longing for the simpler days when blogging was just blogging.

You still write.

You still read.

So yes, I might be a little old school, what can I say. What are you?

And on that note, have a great weekend!

I'm so old school you just described my entire blog…..dang. Intuitive lol

Does that make me an old school blog reader? Although my blog is new, I even remember google reader's launch like it was yesterday. Don't get me started on the days when you actually had to have a list of your favourite blogs in bookmarked and go to them each individually to check for updates… after you walked both ways in the snow and sat through the AOL modem connection music (it still haunts my dreams).

This is so me! I have people trying to convince me to switch from Blogger and I am having the hardest time letting go. I love this lol

What are Instagram Bloggers? Bloggers specifically on Instagram? That sounds like it'd be a pain in the neck to write.

Love this post, and your blog!!

  6. March 6, 2015 / 11:39 am

Did you read my blog before writing this? Hahaha! Old school blogger and proud of it!

I can never get rid of GFC! I love it to much!

  8. March 6, 2015 / 12:44 pm

Lol. I'm still a little old school. Can't let go of that GFC button (even though my blog is now on WordPress!) and I relate to a handful of other things. But I try to adapt to still fit with all the new stuff going on too. Gotta have a healthy mix of both, I think. 🙂

  9. March 6, 2015 / 12:59 pm

I'm stuck in the middle. I had a blog before all that stuff was popular, and when I discovered it all I didn't even understand it. Most of my archived posts before 2014 are pictureless. And if they have pictures they aren't sized correctly. I have zero desire to go back 300 posts and fix that.

Yes to literally all of these! I still had my GFC up until about two weeks ago!

  11. March 6, 2015 / 1:34 pm

Ha I love these. I am a I guess reformed(maybe) blogger. I used to have websites/blogs WAY back in the day of Homestead, Geocities, Livejournal, Open Diary. I remember Myspace, and AOL. Live was so much simpler back then. I'm also old school because I hand write a lot of my ideas etc. Google Calendar? No.

  12. March 6, 2015 / 2:10 pm

omg Geocities. I rocked it. Heck yes. and I only go to blogger.google.com and check my GFC feed. It's the only way. (bloglovin is too obvious at work.)

  13. March 6, 2015 / 2:26 pm

I started blogging when the only platform was LiveJournal. I've only just now discovered how to really blog. But I like to think I'm still pretty good at it. Especially since I became a dot com this week. [Yay!]

Ha, I think I have done (and still do!) almost all of those things! Old school blogger's unite;)

  15. March 6, 2015 / 3:12 pm

HA! All of these describe me to a "t"! And… there's options other than picmonkey?

  16. March 6, 2015 / 3:12 pm

I'm still pretending that there's no such thing as an instagram blogger. Unless I suddenly get instagram fame overnight and then I'll be OK with it. I recently started blogging again, but I started my first blog years and years ago. I remember when the photo editor Picnik got shutdown and it was like, "What am I going to dooooooooo?" But then everyone discovered that some of the employees there started PicMonkey and all was right with the world.

What the heck is TRASHHAND??? I googled and still can't figure it out.

  18. March 6, 2015 / 5:51 pm

While I haven't been blogging while most of these signs were fact – reading through them blogging seemed more like blogging and less stressful and more fun. Can we bring it back old school?

  19. March 6, 2015 / 11:03 pm

I'm totally an old school blogger, and I'm really afraid of getting rid of GFC. I also panicked when Google Reader died 🙁 RIP

I'm not an old school blogger but what is trashhand? I do some of these things even though I just started getting into blogging over a year ago!

I'm a quasi-old-school blogger. Most of my posts are entirely text, and I don't have an Instagram or Pinterest account. My blog started in 2011, and though I had photo references from Post #2 (linked to Facebook), words have driven over ninety percent of my posts. WordPress is my go-to site.

What happened to button swapping? I miss it!

  24. March 9, 2015 / 1:00 am

I liked button swapping! No one does it anymore. Im definitely an old school blogger.

  25. March 9, 2015 / 11:36 pm

Im none of these haha but I do have GFC up because why not. I love the old school bloggers though. Just saying!

I'm old school as well. I remember when PassionFruit blew up and I was like wtf is this website and jumped on the bandwagon and then jumped quickly off when I realized the dude who owns it is a total creep. I still try to button swap but nobody really gets it or cares anymore. :-/ I recently dropped the .blogspot and I feel a little sad because I lost all my followers on GFC and now I look like a new blogger but UGH I'm so not a new blogger. Also I totally still use Picmonkey… What the hell is Trashhand?? Gonna look into that.
