Guide To A Summer Beach Body With Kayla Itsines

I’ve eaten this for lunch every day this week now (so only two days.) Man, it feels like so many more.

Yea it was good, I guess. You know for a salad. It wasn’t as good as a slice of pizza or anything. And it certainly wasn’t as good as the nachos I had for dinner on Saturday. Followed by the chicken wings for dessert. Followed by the chilaquiles for brunch the next day.

And thus the reason I’m eating gross salads all week. Ugh, salads.

On Monday I started the “12 Week Bikini Body Challenge” with Kayla Itsines. I tried to start it once before but I failed miserably. I failed so bad I didn’t even get through day one. So of course I didn’t make it to day two.

But Kayla’s damn Instagram account kept nagging at me. If you want to feel bad about yourself/motivated at the same time follow her. The transformations she posts are unreal. Here’s one I just pulled.

I don’t know this mysterious girl, but now she’s on my blog. But look at her abs, I’m sure she’s okay with it.

So two months later, here I am giving it another go.

I made it through day one on Monday- barely. By the end I was having cold sweats and thinking that I was going to throw up and most likely die. And this is only a thirty minute workout! I should not be feeling that way. But my lungs are clogged with chicken wings and fried cheese sticks so it’s a little hard to breath during strenuous activities.

But after my nausea wore off something incredible happened, I felt good. So at lunch time Harlow and I went for a run. By 12:30 we had logged 20k steps according to my FitBit and I still had an abundance of energy. It was weird. I didn’t even take my normal afternoon nap.

Tuesday was a light day without a workout guide so Har and I went for another jog. And shockingly enough, I felt good again! So working out is actually good for the body. Who knew!

Tomorrow is abs and arms and I’m kind of excited for it. I haven’t had a good ab workout since dance class in the 90s. I realize I’m only two days in and that’s not a huge accomplishment by any means. But hey, at least I’m two days further in than last time.

I only purchased Kayla’s workout guides and chose to skip her food guides. I’m sure that’s not the smartest decision, but I’m taking baby steps. I’m honest enough with myself to know I’m not going to change my diet completely, I’m just going to adjust it.

For example on Monday I had a kale/spinach/blueberry/banana smoothie for breakfast. Salad for lunch. And tilapia tacos for dinner. And a beer. I’m not eliminating alcohol. I just won’t do it.

Tuesday I had the same meals for breakfast and lunch as I did on Monday and grilled chicken for dinner. And a beer. And of course there were snacks in between meals. Things like pretzels, almonds, yogurt, just your standard boring healthy snacks.

On the weekends I’m going to make an effort to not eat as much bad food as I usually do. Don’t get me wrong I’ll still eat fries and burgers, just in lesser amounts. That’s the goal anyway.

And there will always be Bloody Marys. Always always. If I stick to this and find myself with chiseled abs like Redhead above in 12 weeks, I’ll proudly post my before and after pics. But not until then.

I should also mention that next week I’m heading to San Antonio and the following week to Steamboat, Colorado so… so it’s going to be hard to stick to this while I’m traveling. But it sure would be nice if I could.

If you have any vacation workout tips, let me know them. Or just any workout suggestions in general. Or any life tips actually. Just give me all your tips and suggestions. Please and thank you.

PS don’t forget tomorrow I’m hosting this linkup!

The Daily Tay

I was the kind of kid who would bring an entire bag of Cool Ranch Doritos to eat for lunch, just that and that alone. Living the dream.

I live in CO and it is BEAUTIFUL right now. Try a hike in Steamboat. It's going to be beautiful there and surely there are tons of awesome walking trails. Just drink lots of water to avoid altitude sickness.

holy cow, you weren't kidding. my arms are still quivering!

Haha I was wondering how your progress was going! My friend and I have kept with it but we are doing it a little different. Since we were dying every time we decided to break it up and do the first 4 weeks but only do each circuit once – now we are starting back over and doing each circuit twice and then once we finish that 4 weeks we will do each circuit 4 times. I know it seems like a dumb idea but it has actually helped us and our muscles aren't aching everyday.

Thanks for the advice! I am killing myself starting out. I am going to try what you recommended. Thanks!

I think the biggest thing is just to do SOMETHING. I use part of my lunch break to just go out and walk. It's not much, but it's better than nothing. And like you said, you realize you feel good and find that you WANT to do more.

So awesome! I thought about trying this one out, but thought I'd start with the Sore to the Core Challenge by Alexa Jean Fitness. I didn't know abs got this sore, but it makes me think that I actually have ab muscles under all of this pizza and booze layers, so I'm going to give it my best. Can't wait to see what you think after you're done with it. I may do it next!

Maybe I'll try joining you in this?? I like the idea of 30 minute exercises… But I'm with you on the diet portion, maybe just moderation is key? Good luck!

I know the linkup isn't until tomorrow BUT I'm not a blogger and this relates to yours above. I was the kind of kid whose mom made her pack her own lunch, so I would bring only a fruit roll up and a squeeze-it. Cue the sugar high!!

Travel workout tips – find a cool park and go for a jog. it's nice to have a change of scenery and you can pretend you're sight seeing! Also, try to walk everywhere. And drink water to make you feel full and balance out the alcohol. Have fun!

Ha! I just started Kayla's program this Monday toooooooo!
Cutting out alcohol is an absolute NO, but BUT I shall try to drink less during the week. We'll see (as I sit here making plans to meet at a brewery later today, right after I finish my abs & arms workout of course!). Keep up the good work girlfriend! One day at a time. If I have abs like redhead up there in 12 weeks I'll pat myself on the back (and maybe reward myself with nachos!). Hell maybe I'll email you to get motivation come Saturday when I'm dying for something bad…

p.s. there are free avenues of downloading her guides… just search around 🙂

I don't like salad, I do like fruit salad though just thought you needed to know that

  11. April 8, 2015 / 6:32 pm

I just bought this guide but then also got an email saying the Bikini Series is starting next week with Tone It Up! So much Instagram motivation… I'm hoping something will stick and I'll have abs in 8 weeks 😛 Sounds like you're doing good so far though!!

  12. April 8, 2015 / 7:25 pm

Oh man. I kind of want to do this. I've been going to the gym for 2.5 months now and trying (keyword TRYING) to eat healthy. 6 lbs. of 40 lbs. down. Sigh. I need to do better.

  13. April 8, 2015 / 8:24 pm

I was super motivated and wanted to ride my bike…until I got to your linkup picture. Then the candy necklace said "Eat me".

  14. April 8, 2015 / 10:04 pm

I love Kayla Itsines! And I mean, obviously you already have a banging body (extreme jealousy over here!), but I always feel like such an asshole when I skip one of her days so obviously something is working!

  15. April 9, 2015 / 3:38 pm

Oh my gosh I started it this week too!!! Her Instagram sucked me in too!! I've done three circuits so far. The first one was the hardest but the second two got better and I'm just really happy to be able to walk normally again. We'll see how I feel about it after next week!!!

  16. April 13, 2015 / 5:20 am

I have the Amanda Adams Bikini Body program and I'm on week 2 of it. Now I'm looking at this gals abs and I'm all over here regretting the burrito and chocolate cake I had yesterday. Ok fine, not really regretting it at all. Looks like I'll have grilled chicken and salads the rest of the week.

  17. April 16, 2015 / 12:50 pm

Look, I can save you money. Just pay me the $99 and I'll walk behind you and knock all the crappy foods from your hand.

  18. April 21, 2015 / 5:29 pm

I've been doing Kayla's guides (somewhat) consistently for a few weeks. They're SO hard but I always feel great after.
