Wet Hot Summer

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tom’s of Maine for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I know most people hate humid weather, but I actually love it. I could bask in it for hours upon hours.

I love the feeling of walking outside at 10 p.m. at night and it’s just as hot and sticky as it was at 1:30 in the afternoon. I grew up in Nebraska where humidity is extremely high, so hot humid nights feel like my childhood summers.

I also love that feeling of being at a pool or lake all day and then coming home and crashing on the couch with a cold bowl ice cream or fruit while the sun tan from earlier penetrates your hot skin. That’s a summer feeling to me. I cover myself with sunscreen and hats now unlike in my younger foolish teenage years, but I still can still feel the heat of a good summer day even without a terrible unhealthy sunburn.

I was that kid who spent every waking hour outside when the weather was nice. Likewise, I was also that kid who considered jumping in a lake or a pool a “bath.” What I’m saying is I was probably that super smelly kid in the summer who refused to bathe. Don’t worry, I’ve matured into a clean adult who pays a little more attention to my personal hygiene.

I’m kind of a fanatic about choosing the right type of deodorant that I use. I want to know what is in the product and also how the product was tested- i.e. if it was tested on animals I’m not going anywhere near it. I recently started using Tom’s of Maine natural deodorant.

It has has no aluminum and no artificial fragrances or preservatives. I’m trying to put less toxins in my mouth with the food I eat, so why put toxins under my arm pits?  Tom’s of Maine is a deodorant (anti-odor) not an antiperspirant (anti-sweat), so it doesn’t protect against wetness. So what I’m saying is that if you’re a heavy sweater, you may need to choose an antiperspirant.

Trying the deodorant for at least 3-7 days, including testing out different scents (or unscented), can help determine the best fit for your body’s unique chemistry.

This is the first time I’ve used natural deodorant and so far so good. I haven’t had any type of reaction whatsoever. I like finding good products from companies that are doing good things. Tom’s of Maine gives 10% of their profits toward helping people and the planet.

And Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Natural Deodorant also uses fully recyclable packaging and they do zero animal testing and no animal ingredients. Follow them on Twitter @Toms_of_Maine to get more info and updates.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Comments has been turned off, get outside and enjoy summer!
