Black on Black on Black

When in doubt, put on another layer of black. It’s always my go-to in the winter. Big sweaters and big scarves will be the only thing (besides Doritos) that get me through these next long cold months I’m about to endure in this chilly little city I’m living in.

I’m not sure when it happened, but somewhere along the line I turned into an even bigger homebody than I already was. For some reason nothing ever sounds as fun to me on a Friday or Saturday evening as staying in with a nice glass of wine and a good movie- and with Grandma Harlow on my lap.

This is Grandma Harlow, she’s an old Russian woman who gets cranky if you move her too much or try to take her blanket away.

So on the rare occasion when Chris comes home on a Friday night and says “What do you say we just hang out at home tonight?” I jump at the idea. Because even though I’m a recluse, Chris is still Mr. Social. He’s the party guy and I’m the couch girl. Sad, I just realized I called myself “couch girl.” I think it’s time to reevaluate.

But the moment I start to worry I’ve lost all of my fun I remember that during the week I’m usually out until midnight or later doing stand-up or watching shows at Second City and iO. So I swear I’m not that boring yet.

Chris and I actually have a pretty nice system worked out where we’ll go out to dinner together and have some drinks and then when we’re done he’ll continue on to the bar scene with his bros while I continue on to the couch scene with my Harlows. I feel like we get the best of both worlds really. Saturday evening for example we went with some friends to our favorite little hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant, Green Tea Sushi.

We sat at the bar (because this place is literally teeny tiny and only has four tables) had some amazing rolls, a few beers, and by the end of it I was more than content to go home and settle in for the night. Does this make me a little bit of a grandma? Yes, probably. But during the winter I just don’t care.

Plus, how could I want to spend all night out when I’ve got this guy waiting for me at home?

Just as a side note, if you’re into quirky indie films I watched a good one Saturday night called Frances Ha. It’s in black and white and some parts of it are a little bit odd, but for some reason I just loved it. So if you’re in a weird mood and want to watch a movie about a 27 year old girl struggling to make it in NYC while staying true to her dreams and passions, I’d recommend it. And now you know why I probably liked it so much.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I’m off to the iO Theater right now to live-tweet the Golden Globes (@iochicago) with the rest of the social media team as we sit in the same seats Tina and Amy once did long ago when they too were just getting their start at iO… Oh to be Tina and Amy.

Cheers to a new week.

I'm a couch lady too thanks to my Grandpa Marco 🙂 We have to crate poor Grandpa whenever we are away because his separation anxiety is so bad. So the last thing I want to do when I'm off work is crate the guy even more. It's ok though. Grandpa gives good cuddles on these cold nights.

Even the person called by my husband as one of the most extroverted people (me) loves spending the weekend at home with some wine and whatever Netflix show we are obsessed with at the time. But the extrovert in me prefers my mister to be home with me, too. Pretty sure you're not boring! And we will all be cheering for you to be the next Tina/Amy so we can be the snobs that say, "I read her blog before you knew of her just like I listened to Kings of Leon before they went main stream!" 😉

If I could spend everyday in my pjs on the couch, I'd be totally fine with that. Then I get those days when I want to go out & I go out & I realize it was such a mistake & I miss my couch.

Frances Ha sounds just like Coyote Ugly. A girl trying to make it in the big, bad city, while staying true to her heart and passions… hahahaha. May have to check it out.
I'm very much a couch girl these days. I used to be the social butterfly, but something happened, and I can't stay up past midnight. I guess I'll turn into a pumpkin or something. That sushi, looks AMAZING!

But, um, why is that the prettiest sushi in the world? When I, inevitably, come crash your couch party one of these days, I will insist you bring me there. Also, I was a couch person on Friday night… what's happening?

In the cold weather I want nothing more than to spend quality time curled up on my couch… I don't blame you!

I'm couch girl and I'm 20. THAT'S sad. I reward myself with milkshakes and cookies for going on pub crawls.

The Daily Adventures of G'ma Harlow in continuing soap opera fashion are something I'm addicted to… as I sit on the couch, laptop placed just so, with my two big lunky boxers next to me most nights. LOVE your blog, wishing you the best.

I also love staying in with wine and a movie most weekends. My boyfriend says I'm boring but I think he's learning to accept it

I am one of those who thinks black goes with everything.

My husband and I just discovered the fun of going out to eat with the kids at 5pm, then getting in bed at 7pm on a Saturday night and watching movies. I think we have aged to 80 in ten short years.

Harlow is a cute grandma! Just need to teach him to knit ;D
I love my couch too. Some nights all I want to do is cuddle up on the couch and watch tv or read a book.
