Girl Walks Into A Comedy Bar

It’s Friday! Yay it’s finally here! Let’s keep this short and sweet because I’m sure all of you have better things to do on this lovely Good Friday.

I found out a couple of days ago that I made the line-up for the Chicago Womens Funny Festival in June! Woo hoo! I’m really excited because it’s my first comedy festival so I’m not quite sure what to expect. My ultimate goal is to get into one of New York’s comedy festivals this summer, but I know they’re really competitive so I don’t want to get too ahead of myself. Then again, I’m always ahead of myself. This whole comedy thing is just so weird and new to me, I have no idea how long it will last so my goal is to simply ride it out as long as it’s still fun me. Let’s just say some nights are better than others…

Last night I told jokes at the comedy bar downtown and was lucky enough to have my old roomy from Kansas City in town, Sara, to take some photos. Sara was one of the first people to see me do stand-up last year in her living room after I drank a little bit too much and decided to do my first set ever in front of three of my best pals… And then an hour later I accidentally started her apartment on fire. Oh that was a funny night.

Not my best look…

That’s all I’ve got for today. I had about 100 other post ideas that were all going to be much better than this one, but I’ve got a bad case of the Fridays and my mind is all over the place.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend! I’m throwing it back to Easter ’89 when I used to rock a bonnet like it was nobody’s business. “Look ma, it’s a fence.”

Okay so I didn't even finish reading the first paragraph BUT if you DO make it to NYC, you HAVE to let me know, Seriously. I live in Northern NJ and I go there a LOT. There's also a little comedy club called The Stress Factory that is RIGHT IN my boyfriend's town. We're going there tonight to see Chris Rock's new set. Yes. CHRIS ROCK. SNL, In Living Color, Everybody Hates Chris, the donkey on Shrek, Chris Rock. In a tiny town in Central Jersey. Check the place out at stressfactory.com.

If you come out here, you HAVE to come do a set or two, they'd seriously love you. I'm publicly gushing but I don't even care. We can hang out and eat great food and drink bloodys and talk about animals and everything.

Okay so yeah. Have a great weekend! I'm not a stalker I promise. I just got way too excited.

I'm too exicted and definitely meant Madagascar. Chris Rock is NOT Eddie Murphy. Great, so I just made myself sound like a racist. God.

Hey this is going to sound really dorky, but have you ever listened to the Nerdist podcast? It's basically two comedians (Chris Hardwick and Jonah Ray) and a guy who is just starting out (Matt Mira), and they interview other comedians and actors in a really casual (and positive) format about how they got their start. When I first started listening to it I honestly didn't care so much about stand up but after hearing like a hundred guests' stories it really sort of showed what goes on behind the curtain, so to speak. Anyway I think someone like you who is just getting out there and going for it might really enjoy the podcast. It gets pretty hilarious sometimes too.

Oh I made it sound like they only talk about how they got started in "the biz" but they also just talk about whatever they want for an hour a lot of the time.

Don't know why I said "the biz" up there, now I'm embarrassed.

I will still never understand how you have the guts to continue getting in front of people — but you do, and I love it! Can't wait to HEAR some of your stand up. Caleb and I are thinking of a trip to Chicago soon, I'll have to check w/ you if you have anything lined up!
