A Summer Weekend In Chicago

The Knox and Lola family showed up around 5:45 a.m. last Friday morning, excited to be in Chicago and ready to play! Below is the only photo I managed to catch of Knox, at least he made sure it was a good one.
We went to the park, the zoo, ate brunch, watched trains go by, played “dogs,” rode Harlow, you name it and we did it- and this was all before noon… When the kids left around 6:00 p.m. to go play with their cousin in Lincoln Square I felt like I needed to take a long hot bath surrounded by candles with Enya music playing in the background. And I don’t even like baths. Or Enya.
Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love getting to play with Knox and Lola and have them in town, but playing with toddlers is a level of exhaustion I’m just not used to. It’s a combination of being so mentally and physically tired, and when it’s all over I kind of just want to crawl into bed and suck my thumb for a bit.
So what I’m saying is kudos to moms and dads for doing it everyday, it impresses the hell out of me. And it also scares me.

Home T can be found here. Check out their great cause here.

Lola’s loves brunch as much as I do.

It was a great day for the Lincoln Park zoo on Friday. Except for the fact I realized I’ve become a bit of a cynic and zoos only make me sad now because I feel like all of the animals look so sad…

After the zoo we ditched the boys for some rooftop drinks at the J Parker.

And afternoon nachos are always a must.

And here’s a few other photos from the weekend…

Harlow finds a bubble machine.

Harlow finds free bones at a church.

And Harlow dips his face in mustard because of the sandwich you see below.

All in all, another great weekend in Chicago.

Oof. Kids. Exhausting. Fun but EXHAUSTING. Harlow knows what's up, I never turn down a good sammie. Or free church cookies. Enjoy the week, yet another five days of eating healthfully before the next weekend comes and I eat like a fattie all over again. #sabotage

Toddlers make me appreciate parents so much more. They bring out the kid in us but then I realize why kids naps so much. It's exhausting being a kid.

J Parker rooftop above the Lincoln Hotel! It's one of my fav spots!

You aren't kidding about the exhaustion – it's a whole new level. An element of fear that I have for momhood ha.

Looks like an amazing weekend! Love your outfit with the floral skirt! Rooftop drinks sound like my kind of fun. I'm visiting Chicago in Sept so might have to check out that J Parker place.

I just love all the Chicago pics! Thanks for the J Parker info, it looks wonderful. Although I'm in Louisville, my sister has lived in Chicago for years. She's in Lincoln Park right off Diversey, so I recognize so many of the streets and restaurants from my many visits. Thanks for glimpse's into that awesome city! … and for the adorable face of Harlow, of course 🙂

We laughed at that mustard picture for a good 5 minutes. 'Mom you should have seen that mean man that stole your sandwich, it was the weirdest thing and then he smeared mustard on my nose!'

I know what you mean, they just have so much energy. My six year old cousin came to visit last month and managed to wear me out so much I caught a cold. Maybe I'm just lazy but I don't know how the moms and dads do it every day. It looks like you had a pretty fun weekend though, Knox and Lola are adorable!

We're cut from the same cloth because I also find zoos unbearably depressing. Even though, it's like I have amnesia. "Let's go to the zoo!" followed by, "Oh my god, I hate the zoo, why did we do this to ourselves?" I'm also a Chicagoan and recently discovered the J Parker rooftop last fall. It's like the most impressive bar to take out-of-towners!
